  • REMEMBERING

Being 16 is one of the hardest things a person has to do. Thank goodness, I don't remember a lot of what happened, but I do remember my 16th birthday. My boyfriend was supposed to take me out, so I had told my best friend that I would call her later (even though we had already made plans to hang out).

My boyfriend never showed, though he did call to say that I should be happy for him because he had found "true" love.

My best friend was out somewhere and had no idea that I needed her. (There were no cell phones back then.)

I spent what should have been a great night, alone, crying, wishing I had never been born.

Do you remember your 16th year?

Check out my son's Xanga site. He has invited us to hang with him as he maneuvers through this often tumultuous year of life.

  • Dear Tammy,

As usual I went back a few entries, since I haven't visited in a while. I love the photo you are using as background. The expression on Destiny's face is precious.

Here's to Robert's success at riding the unicycle, and I hope he saves his money, and yet still is able to "party" and have a good time, since you're only young once.

I remember my 16th year. I was a sophomore in High School back in 1969, getting good grades, and participating in school government. I was also on the school newspaper staff and became the editor the next year. I wrote a few good poems that year as well.

    Thanks for the memories.

  • teenage years are the pits... but they were also wonderful, too. That doesn't mean I would ever want to relive them!

I spent my sixteenth birthday remembering three friends of mine who had been recently killed in a car accident. It was the first time I had experienced death. So much for sweet sixteen, huh?

  • I remember my sixteenth birthday... i wasn't real popular and didn't want to 'bother' people by asking them to come to my party... so on my birthday i went home after school like it was any other day and made my own birthday cake... my parents felt so bad for me that they invited one of my friends to come over without me knowing.  I think she was a little wierded out to get that call, but she came anyway...

My sixteenth year is when my older sister had a baby out of wedlock after her freshman year of college, so that drama pretty much dominated my conservative Christian family then.

  • i don't remember my sixteenth birthday.  perhaps this is a good thing ...

  • sorry, but i don't wanna go there ...

  • I lost my virginity that year. I dont want any reminders of that.

  • I was in grade 11 and involved in drama.
    The rest is a blur.
I'm sure I will get a reminder Friday night as that is my 20-year high school reunion!

  • I met my future husband when I was 16!!

  • I had a happy boyfriend free 16th year.  Happy 16th to your baby!!!

  • All remember was that my Mom let me stay home from school so I could hear the World Series.

  • i cried all night of my 16th birthday too... i'm sure it was over a boy and a best friend, but i do know i ruined the party they had for me... being 16 is still hard!:heartbeat:

  • :frog: I was an overweight, mouthy and ugly kid at sixteen and thought I would never be lucky enough for a boyfriend. I wasn't till I was eighteen and met the most wonderful man who loved me, married me and gave us two girls!

  • Hi.

I do remember being 16 but for the life of me I can't remember the actual day I turned 16. Hmmph. Couldn't have been that spectacular.

It's been awhile since you left me a comment, you're probably wondering who this is. I'm a terrible blogger during the summer months when my two kids are home. Busy working and planning vacations.

School has started here so I'm trying to work my way back to Blogger Goddess. :)

    Thanks for the comment.

  • I think that my 16th year was the summer of my German soldier.  It was a time of good beer and lederhosen until he left us for the large lady next door with the bass girdle and longhorn helmet. When she started singing... it was all over.
